Development of wastewater treatment using ozonation technology
Meritens was the first to use ozone as a fungicide in drinking water treatment in 1896.
The Bon Voyage water plant, established and operational in Nice in 1906, is considered "the birthplace of drinking water ozonation".
Until the late 1970s, ozone was still used primarily for disinfection, mainly in France and other uses.
In recent years, ozone oxidation technology has been widely used, and it has obvious advantages in sterilization, disinfection, decolorization, deodorization, oxidation of refractory organic matter and improvement of flocculation effect. In recent years, the good effect of ozone on color removal of dye wastewater, printing and dyeing wastewater and papermaking wastewater has been applied in practice.
Ozone can degrade large molecules of chromophore group into small molecules and finally effectively remove them. The biggest characteristics of papermaking wastewater are BOD, COD, high chroma and odor, which contain high concentrations of chlorophenol, acetone chloride, trichloromethane and so on. Part et al. used ozone to decolorize bleaching wastewater of kraft paper plant. The ozone with a concentration of 32.4mg /L was passed into a column reactor with continuous operation. The residence time was 3 min, and the chroma of the wastewater was completely removed.
